Winter in Chicagoland is cozy season, and there's nothing cozier than curling up with a warm drink and a good book on a snowy day. Of course, it helps if you have a great space in your home dedicated to reading!

If you don't have such a space, our real estate agents are here to help. These tips and tricks will help you design the perfect warm reading nook for winter afternoons in your home.

  • Choose a spot with a view

No matter who you're rooting for, everyone wants to be at a great Super Bowl party on game day. This year, skip the crowded sports bars and host one of your own. By following these tips, you can transform any space — big or small — into the ideal game-day hangout.

  1. Have plenty of seating.

Like many other foodies throughout Chicagoland, our real estate agents love Chicago Restaurant Week. This "week" is actually a 17-day celebration where diners can enjoy special prix fixe menus at over 470 of Chicagoland's best, award-winning restaurants. From January 24 through February 9, 2025, participating restaurants offer $30 brunch and lunch menus and $45 or $60 dinner menus. These restaurants represent 35 Chicago neighborhoods along with 50 suburban restaurants.

With so much selection, it can be hard to choose where to start, but here are a few of our favorites. Spots fill up quickly, so book your table today!

Owning a home comes with a mix of excitement and responsibility. While your house provides a haven, it also requires some essential knowledge to keep it safe, functional and in top condition. Being prepared for unexpected issues, understanding the key components of your home and staying on top of maintenance will save you in the long run. With that in mind, here are five crucial things every homeowner should know to protect their investment.

  1. How to turn off the water

Turning off the water supply to your house will allow you to quickly stop water flow in a plumbing emergency. This can include burst pipes, leaky faucets, overflowing fixtures or other serious plumbing issues that could cause severe water damage. Spring isn't the only time of year when you can take the opportunity to declutter your home. Better yet, now is a great time to consider donating gently used clothing and other items to resale stores, shelters and people in need. Not only does this help others, but it also reduces waste by keeping items out of landfills — a small but impactful step toward addressing a growing global issue.

Fortunately, Chicagoland is home to dozens of organizations that accept clothing, furniture, household goods and personal items to repurpose and distribute to those in need. Below, we've highlighted a few to help you get started, though many more are equally deserving of your time and donations.
